5-Jul 15, 2024 19-49-24-i2F2

Abatemaster completed a lead-based paint (LBP) abatement project at a school, targeting structurally critical elements to ensure child safety in compliance with NC Health Hazard Control regulations. The project focused on exterior door frames, window/door lintels, and courtyards, requiring meticulous coordination with school representatives to preserve the historic integrity of the building while meeting stringent environmental standards.

Project Description

Abatemaster executed full remediation of lead hazards across 1,245 linear feet of structural components:

  • 884 LF of exterior door frames
  • 361 LF of lintels

Work included:

  • Strict adherence to the client-approved Abatement Plan for surface preparation, wet scraping, and encapsulation.
  • Collaboration with school representatives to verify abatement boundaries and pre-mobilization site prep (e.g., ceiling tile removal for frame access).
  • Negative air pressure containment with HEPA filtration systems to isolate work zones.
  • Post-abatement refinishing: Application of direct-to-metal primer, recaulking, and client-selected final paint.

Key Features

  • Compliance 15
  • with child-occupied facility protocols, including permit acquisition with mandatory two-week notice.
  • Hazardous waste disposal via EPA-approved methods.
  • Detailed photo documentation to confirm pre-abatement site conditions.
  • Transparency in addressing unforeseen conditions through pause-and-notify protocols.

The project restored structural safety and compliance without disrupting the facility’s architectural character. All abated areas passed clearance testing, ensuring a lead-free environment for students and staff.
